Local organization hopes to boost youth athletic dreams with scholarship to Sport Academy

Athletic youth could be one step closer to realizing their dreams of winning medals at the podium thanks to a unique fitness diagnostic test day hosted by Athletic Architecture Inc and the Quest Sports Academy.

Registration for this event titled: From the Playground to the Podium will take place at the Pickering Athletic Center on March 13th 2010 …. It aims to give aspiring athletic youth a chance to test their sport prowess with a view to sparking their athletic careers. “Europe and the US have it on straight. It’s time for us to imitate and take sport in Canada to new levels, it starts with our young athletes,” says Donna Clarke, Olympic track and field athlete and founder of the Quest Sports Academy.

The ground-breaking grassroots campaign is open to aspiring young athletes in the region. It features among other activities, testing registrants’ athletic ability, with the results documented in a detailed assessment following the test, as well as an opportunity to hear from and interact with several sports celebrities from various fields. Registered participants can also look forward to several prizes including a prestigious scholarship to the non-profit, The Quest Sports Academy.

“It’s our way of capturing talented children from the playgrounds of Canada and giving parents real insight into the athletic journey.” says Clarke, "We can now see the power of investment from our government and corporations with our recent success at the Winter Olympic Games." The team at Athletic Architecture wants to build the right platform for our athletes to reach their full potential.”

Clarke, whose own athletic journey began on the playgrounds of suburban Mississauga, leading to her Olympic dream after only six months of training is eager to pay it forward. “There are more Alexandre Bilodeaus and Maëlle Rickers out there,” she says. “Our organization is a grassroots effort to discover them and light the flame on their athletic, even Olympic dreams.”
